Google launches online IT degrees in India

BANGALORE: Search engine giant Google and online education company Udacity on Monday launched IT courses in India, branching outside the US to tap the country´s millions of software developers scrambling for jobs.

The pair teamed with Indian conglomerate Tata to offer online technical training courses, focusing on teaching software developers to build apps for Android, the Google-backed mobile operating system.

Costing 9,800 rupees ($148) a month, the degrees will take between six and nine months to complete, with lessons from Google instructors based in the United States. Students will get 50 percent of tuition costs back on graduation.

Google is looking to cash in on skilling up many of India´s 3.6 million developers, the second largest number worldwide, while at the same time seeking more developers who can programme for Android devices.

"While India has millions of software developers, we still lag behind in creating world-class apps," Google India managing director Rajan Anandan told reporters in India´s IT hub of Bangalore.

The companies will also offer 1,000 scholarships and all graduates will be invited to a job fair next year hosted by Google in India.

The launch comes as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi heads to Silicon Valley this weekend as part of a visit to the US, seeking foreign investment in India´s plethora of start-ups as well as financial tieups with US tech giants.

Modi, who will meet Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg, is expected to reassure IT CEOs of efforts to reduce red tape and make it easier to do business in India, a massive market of 1.26 billion people.

India also boasts a large number of engineering and IT specialists who have left the country to rise to the top of the US corporate world, including Google´s new chief executive Sundar Pichai and Microsoft boss Satya Nadella.

Gangster among four nabbed by Rangers from CHK

KARACHI: Rangers arrested four suspects including an injured gang-war accused from Civil Hospital Karachi, sources said.

According to the sources, the paramilitary force on a tip-off conducted raid at CHK’s emergency ward and arrested four including the gang-war accused.

The injured gangster was moved to court for treatment, where he was arrested.

Protesters gather in Hong Kong a year since mass rallies

Hong Kong: Protesters are due to gather once more in Hong Kong on Monday, a year since the start of huge pro-democracy rallies that brought parts of the city to a standstill.

But with no concessions on political reform from authorities in Beijing and Hong Kong, campaigners, disheartened by a lack of progress, say they do not plan to start more mass demonstrations.

Monday´s events are instead billed as a time for reflection as activists try to develop strategies to breathe new life into a movement which has lost momentum.

Occupy Central was launched a year ago, calling for fully free leadership elections in the semi-autonomous city, following more than a week of student protests.

Thousands joined the already large crowds after police fired tear gas in the afternoon of September 28, a move that shocked the public and galvanised the Umbrella Movement -- named after the umbrellas protesters carried to shelter from sun, rain, tear gas and pepper spray.

For more than two months the centre of the city became an entrenched rally camp.

On Monday, activists will first gather at midday at the "Lennon Wall" -- an outdoor staircase near the government headquarters that was plastered with thousands of multi-coloured paper notes expressing support during the protests.

It was at the heart of the sprawling protest site in Admiralty district, where the main pro-democracy rally will take place later Monday afternoon.

There will be a moment of silence at 5:58 pm (0958 GMT) -- the time when the tear gas was fired.

Pro-Beijing groups are also due to march in two central areas of Hong Kong Monday afternoon.

Police will deploy 3,000 officers, the South China Morning Post reported, citing unnamed police sources.

36 Pakistanis martyred, 85 still missing after Mina stampede

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed the martyrdom of 36 Pakistanis as a result of the Mina stampede in Saudi Arabia while, according to the minister, 217 of the missing Pakistanis have made contact.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has released the names of the 36 Pakistani martyrs in a list on its website.

Speaking to Geo News, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousuf said that 217 Pakistanis previously believed to be missing have made contact while 85 are still missing. “Efforts are afoot to find the Pakistani pilgrims who are still missing,” he added.

He said that, under the Hajj policy, the Pakistani pilgrims martyred in Mina stampede will be laid to rest in Saudi Arabia.

Sardar Yousuf further said that 12 out of 34 of the Pakistanis who sustained injuries in the incident have been discharged from hospitals after treatment while the rest are still receiving medical aid in Saudi Arabia.

He said that if the family members of the victims wish to visit Saudi Arabia, the government would provide them all possible help.

At least 769 Hajj pilgrims from various countries were martyred as a result of a stampede last week in Mina where they had gathered to stone the devil as a ritual for this year's Hajj.

More than 900 pilgrims were injured while scores others went missing in the incident.

PM Nawaz Sharif says:

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is presently in New York for attending the United Nations General Assembly session, said difficulties are being faced in finding the missing pilgrims after the Mina stampede.

However, he hoped that the situation would become clear soon.

On the advice of the prime minister, the religious affairs ministry has set up a helpline to assist and help out those concerned about their loved ones.

The helpline can be accessed by calling the toll-free number 042111725425 from inside Pakistan, while callers from Saudi Arabia or other countries can dial 8001166622 for help.

Russian T-50 stealth fighters 2017

A dozen Russian T-50 stealth fighters to go into service 2017

Russia’s Sukhoi T-50 fifth generation prototype fighter jets will enter into service with the Russian Armed Force in 2017, Russian Air and Space Forces Commander Col. Gen. Viktor Bondarev told reporters Saturday.

The T-50 is currently undergoing flight tests that have so far been successful, Bondarev said. Previous reports stated that the aircraft would enter into service in 2016.

“Under the program, we will finish testing next year and will begin to receive the T-50 jets in 2017," Bondarev said.
According to Bondarev, the aircraft fully meets the requirements.

The T-50 prototype aircraft is designed by the Russian Sukhoi aircraft manufacturer for the PAK FA, a fifth-generation fighter program of the Russian Air Force.

The fighter jet is expected to become the first operational stealth aircraft for the Russian Air Force and will incorporate advanced avionics and all-digital flight systems.

The aircraft is a stealthy, single-seat, twin-engine jet fighter, and will be the first operational aircraft in Russian service to use stealth technology. It is a multirole fighter designed for the air superiority and attack roles. The fighter is planned to have supercruise, stealth, supermaneuverability, and advanced avionics to overcome the prior generation of fighter aircraft as well as ground and maritime defences. The PAK FA is intended to be the successor to the MiG-29 and Su-27 in the Russian Air Force and serve as the basis for the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) being co-developed by Sukhoi and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force. The T-50 prototype first flew on 29 January 2010 and the first production aircraft is slated for delivery to the Russian Air Force starting in late 2016 or early 2017. The prototypes and initial production batch will be delivered with a highly upgraded variant of the AL-31F used by the Su-27 family as interim engines while a new clean-sheet design powerplant is currently under development.

The Russian Air Force is expected to procure more than 150 PAK FA aircraft, the first of which is slated to be delivered in 2016. India plans on acquiring modified PAK FA as a part of its Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) program. It originally planned on buying 166 single-seat and 44 two-seat variants, but this has been reduced to 130-145 single-seat aircraft and the requirement for 45-50 twin-seat fighters has been dropped by 2014. The Russian Defence Ministry plan on purchasing the first 10 evaluation example aircraft after 2012 and then 60 production standard aircraft after 2016.

In December 2014, the Russian Air Force planned to receive 55 fighters by 2020. But Yuri Borisov, Russia's deputy minister of defence for armaments stated in March 2015 that the Air Force will slow PAK FA production and reduce its initial order to 12 jets due to the nation's deteriorating economy. Due to the aircraft's complexity and rising costs, the Russian Air Force will retain large fleets of fourth-generation Sukhoi Su-27 and Su-35S

Google Maps for Apple Maps

I ditched Google Maps for Apple Maps, and I'm not going back

With iOS 9, Apple's recent software update for iPhones and iPads, the company largely focused on improving its core apps — including Apple Maps.

The new version of Apple Maps finally offers public-transit directions, which many rival navigation apps have included for years.
The new public-transit directions in Apple Maps are accurate and handy. I've been using them to get around New York City for the past week, and I haven't been tempted to switch back to Google Maps once.
It's worth noting, however, that public-transit directions for Apple Maps are only available in 11 cities around the world for now.
Since Google Maps has been offering public-transit instructions for years, it's already available in hundred of cities around the globe.
Still, if you do live in a city where Apple Maps public-transit directions are available, here are a few of the most useful features worth trying.

Apple mixes turn-by-turn walking directions with public-transit routes

(Lisa Eadicicco) When you reach the bus or train stop closest to your destination, sometimes it can be confusing to figure out exactly where you need to walk. This is easy enough to find using Google Maps, since you can simply look at the map to view your location and see which direction you're walking in.
But Apple Maps makes this even easier by telling you exactly where you need to turn. Tapping the "Details" button next to your stop reveals a list of turn-by-turn walking directions to help you get to your destination faster.
Notice how Google Maps only tells you how far you need to walk in its set of directions.

Apple also tells you exactly where you should be exiting the train station

(Lisa Eadicicco) In a city like New York, it can be difficult to decide which exit to take when you leave the train station. If you're exiting a big station such as Union Square, taking the wrong exit can put you all the way on the other side of the park, blocks away from where you need to be.
But Apple Maps tells you which signs you should look for and where you should exit the subway. It maps out the subway station so that you can clearly see where all the exits are.

Both Google Maps (right) and Apple Maps (left) come with a feature called Transit View, which shows you subway lines, bus stops, transit terminals, and other necessary bits of information depending on which city you're in.
I personally prefer the Transit View in Apple Maps over the one in Google Maps. It's easier to see the name of the actual subway line, which could be useful for someone who's new to the city and can't recognize them all by color yet.

Here's Samsung's latest plan to lure people away from the iPhone

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5's note taking mode.
If you're thinking about ditching your iPhone for Android, you might want to consider this deal from Samsung.

The company just announced that it will pay the monthly installment bill for your new phone until 2016.
The discount applies if you buy a Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, or Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on an installment plan from T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, or US Cellular. You won't be eligible for the discount if you buy a new phone on AT&T's network, however.
If you buy a Galaxy S6 through Verizon's installment option, you'd typically have to pay $24 per month for 24 months to fully pay off the device. Now, Samsung is saying it will take care of those monthly payments until 2016 if you buy a new Galaxy phone between now and Oct. 9. The rebate caps at $120.
And, if you're switching from the iPhone, Samsung says it'll also throw in a $100 Google Play gift card. The announcement comes just after Apple's new iPhone 6S officially launched in stores.
This is one of several attempts from Samsung to get customers to switch from the iPhone to its Galaxy phones. The company recently released a TV spot for its new phones that highlight all of the things they can do that the iPhone can't.

Apple iPhone 6s - Full phone specifications

Apple's iPhone 6S is one of the best smartphones I've ever used  but here's why I wouldn't buy it.know about all about this?

Apple's iPhone 6S is one of the best smartphones I've ever used — but here's why I wouldn't buy it

Apple's iPhone 6S is one of the best smartphones I've ever used — but here's why I wouldn't buy it

Apple's new iPhone 6S is the best smartphone the company has made yet. It's a bit faster. It has a pressure-sensitive screen. The camera is noticeably better in some ways. The design is more durable.

It's an excellent phone all around. But if you have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, you probably don't need to upgrade.
One of the marquee features to come with the iPhone 6S is 3D Touch, which allows you to press down harder on the screen to perform certain actions.
These include launching a quick shortcut menu on an app icon, switching between apps faster, previewing links in emails, and more. Although it's handy and works well, it's not enough to convince me to buy a new iPhone.
The enhancements in the iPhone 6S are noticeable, but they haven't drastically changed the way I actually use my phone. For me, this wasn't the case when Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year. The jump from a 4-inch screen to a 5.5-inch screen was a game changer. It made the iPhone more valuable to me because I enjoyed everything I did with it a bit more since the screen was so much larger.
The iPhone 6S is simply a better version of the iPhone 6, and here are all the reasons why.

It's the best camera on an iPhone so far

Apple has given the camera on the iPhone 6S a big upgrade in terms of hardware. It now has a 12-megapixel camera instead of an 8-megapixel camera, which should ultimately result in better photos. However, in my limited time with the phone, I didn't notice too much of a difference.
Take a look at the images below. There isn't much of a discrepancy in terms of image quality — the detail and color accuracy looks the same in both photos. (Note:the photos below were taken in the same place at the same time under the same circumstances).

Apple has also added an entirely new feature called Live Photos. This means the camera captures what happens a second before you actually press the shutter button. The effect adds a hint of movement to your photos, making them look more lively, just as its name implies. Live Photos are turned on by default, but you can turn them off by pressing the yellow circles at the top of the screen.
These photos also take up roughly twice as much storage as a normal photo, and you can only view them if you're using an Apple device running the latest software. A few third-party apps (Facebook, Getty Images, Weibo) support Live Photos, too, but it's unclear exactly when that support will roll out.
It's a fun feature, and since it's automatically turned on it's extremely simple to use. But, like 3D Touch, I don't feel like it's a feature I'll necessarily miss when I switch back to using my iPhone 6 Plus.
What I will miss, however, is the much improved front-facing camera on the iPhone 6S. Not only has Apple bumped up the sensor from 1.2-megapixels to 5-megapixels, but it's added a flash too. The iPhone 6S uses the screen on your phone as a flash when you take a photo with the front camera. It works by default — all you have to do is turn the flash on the same way you would if you were taking a photo with the main camera. It's incredibly clever on Apple's part.
The results are impressive to say the least. These are the best front-facing photos I've taken on a smartphone, period. Here's a look at how it compares with that of the iPhone 6S Plus in a dim setting:

3D Touch makes things easier, but that's not enough for me yet

During my time with the iPhone 6S, I found 3D Touch to be helpful in general. But since it's so new, it's not something that's intuitive to me just yet. Also, in a few instances I found that it didn't save me too much time.
Using 3D Touch on the Apple Maps icon (yes I've been using Apple Maps since iOS 9 launched) saves a few steps if you want to get directions home or send your location. But in other scenarios, such as using the alarm clock, launching the app and tapping "Create alarm" is probably just as quick as actually launching the app and tapping that button.

View gallery
.
iPhoneUnbox3DTouch.JPG
(Lisa Eadicicco) The 3D Touch function is more useful in other ways, though. The new feature that Apple calls Peek and Pop, for example, lets you preview content without being directed away from whatever you're currently doing. Using 3D Touch on a link in a text message pulls up a preview of that website without taking you out of the conversation. This also works with dates, flight information, and other types of data.
One of the most useful 3D Touch features I've come across is the ability to turn the keyboard on your iPhone into a touchpad. If you 3D Touch the keyboard, you'll be able to use it as a trackpad for controlling the cursor — which makes it a lot easier to place the cursor exactly where you want it.
The 3D Touch feature works with third-party apps such as Instagram, Pinterest, and Dropbox, too. With Instagram, you can jump straight into your activity feed by 3D Touching its app icon.

View gallery

iPhone6SKeyboard
(Lisa Eadicicco) While 3D Touch makes things a bit faster, it doesn't really play that big of a role in the way I use my iPhone.
I think that could change in the future, though, as more third-party apps make use of 3D Touch. I'm more interested to learn about the new things 3D Touch will enable me to do in apps other than just making tasks quicker and easier.
For instance, the app Magic Piano allows you to change the volume of your tune by pressing the keys harder with 3D Touch. Apple also showcased how 3D Touch lets you accelerate faster in the game AG Drive by pressing harder on the gas.
It's clear that Apple wants 3D Touch to be just as seamless and natural as multitouch — now that we've had it for years, it seems crazy that we've ever lived without it on our phones. I imagine developers will brainstorm creative ways to make their apps so compelling it'll almost feel empty to use them without 3D Touch, but it may take some time to get there.

Other things to know

The new iPhone is a lot faster, too. It runs on Apple's A9 chip, which brings general improvements to the whole device. This, combined with the iPhone 6S' new TouchID sensor, makes it extremely fast to unlock your phone. When I tried unlocking the iPhone 6S and my iPhone 6 Plus at the same time, I noticed the latter lagged noticeably behind the former.
Apple's latest iPhone is also said to be more durable. The aluminum Apple uses for the phone's body is the same type it uses to create the Apple Watch Sport casing, which means it should be able to handle bumps and nicks with more endurance. The glass is also said to be tougher.
You can also turn on Apple's "Hey Siri" feature when you're phone isn't plugged in. This means you can speak to Siri naturally without having to hold down the home button. I found this worked well — I asked Siri what the weather was going to be like the next day from across the room, and she answered instantly.
However, in the few days I've been using the phone, I didn't notice any change in battery life. The iPhone 6S lasts just about as long as the iPhone 6, which means if you're using your phone moderately throughout the day you'll probably get a full day's worth of battery life.

Overall thoughts

iPhone6SVideo
(Lisa Eadicicco)
All of these various improvements combined make Apple's latest iPhone more powerful and easier to use than ever before.
The overall experience is better, but it hasn't changed substantially enough to warrant an upgrade from an iPhone 6. However, if you have an older iPhone such as an iPhone 5S or iPhone 5, it's a great choice, and it'll feel like a huge change.

Breaking news about world

Taylor Swift Calls Boyfriend Calvin Harris "Adam," His Real Name, Is "Head Over Heels": Details!

t’s a Love Story, baby, just call me Adam? Things are heating up between Taylor Swift and her boyfriend of six months, Calvin Harris. In fact, it’s getting so serious that the “Blank Space” singer is not calling the Scotland-born DJ, 31, by his well-known stage name.

“Taylor always calls Calvin by his birth name, Adam, and never Calvin in private,” a source close to the couple exclusively tells Us Weekly. "Taylor gets all dressed and glammed up whenever she is going to see him to look her best.”
Shall we call them “Taydam”?
Swift, 25, whose exes include (but are not limited to) Harry Styles, Conor Kennedy, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, and Joe Jonas, seems to be rather smitten with her new love.
"She's head over heels,” the source continues. “She hasn't been in love like this before!"
PHOTOS: Taylor Swift's song lyrics decoded
For his part, Harris seems equally invested in their romance. In addition to accompanying Swift to the Billboard Music Awards in May, he also defended her in a very public Twitter feud with former One Directioner Zayn Malik.
"It’s going absolutely fantastic," Harris told KISS FM UK in July. "It’s interesting, because obviously there’s different things written about it every day and even if we don't do anything publicly for a while, someone will make something up."
Prior to Swift, Harris dated Russian supermodel Anne V in 2013, British singer Rita Ora from 2013 to 2014, and model Aarika Wolf, whom he met on the set of a music video.

Rumor claims Samsung will unleash its craziest smartphone ever in January

The Galaxy S6 edge is one of this year’s most striking smartphones but it looks like it might be a mere warmup for what Samsung has planned for next year. G for Games directs our attention to a new rumor posted on Weibo that claims Samsung is planning to unveil its first foldable smartphone this January after years of teasing us with foldable display prototypes. According to the rumor, the phone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM and an SD card slot.
To be clear, we’ve heard rumors about foldable Samsung phones for years now. However, there’s good reason to think that this time Samsung might really be ready to unleash a foldable smartphone, as earlier this year Sam Mobile reported that the company was working on something called Project Valley that was described as a smartphone with two displays and “possibly foldable.”
Even if Samsung does release a smartphone with a foldable display next year, of course, that doesn’t mean it will be any good. Let’s recall that Samsung’s first device with a flexible display, 2013’s Galaxy Round, was largely a pointless gimmick. It was only two years later that Samsung’s ambitions for flexible displays really panned out with the Galaxy S6 edge, so even if Samsung’s first foldable display phone is a dud, that doesn’t mean the technology will never be useful.

Apple's iPhone upgrade program: What you need to know

breaking news about apple iphone

The new iPhone Upgrade Program lets customers pay for a new iPhone in monthly installments and upgrade to a new device every year. James Martin/CNET
Who wouldn't want a new iPhone every year?
Apple's newly announced iPhone Upgrade Program offers customers the opportunity to upgrade their smartphone each year by paying a monthly installment. In this column, I'll look at whether the plan is worth it.
Apple's plan mimics similar deals offered by the four major wireless operators, which are ditching two-year service contracts with heavily subsidized devices. Instead they're offering plans that require customers to pay full price for a phone in exchange for lower service fees. T-Mobile started the no-contract trend two years ago and Verizon is the latest to follow suit.
Installment plans help blunt the sticker shock of a new smartphone. And the upgrade plans help drive more iPhone sales.
Apple's new plan could be a boon for the company, which will not only move more inventory, but will also get a steady stream of older devices it can resell.
The new financing program will be available only at Apple retail locations. Customers won't be able to sign up for it online. Devices bought through the program will be unlocked, but they must be activated on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon, the company said during the announcement.
Dear Maggie,
I'm sure you're getting lots of questions about the new iPhone Upgrade program. Could explain how it works? Also, how does it compare to the installment plans the carriers have? I'm a T-Mobile customer, so I don't have the option of a contract plan. Should I be considering this plan?
Thanks,
